iPhone 18 Pro

Why I've only been buying iPhones as a managing director for years: because it works. For me, a phone is a work tool and not a toy — it has to work in the morning, work after the update and still work in two years. Apple builds hardware and operating system from a single source: one manufacturer, one system, a manageable fleet of devices. If you have to span an operating system across dozens of third-party manufacturers, it is much more difficult to deliver the same quality everywhere. In addition, the requirements for the App Store, which developers like to complain about — these are precisely the reason why everything fits together in the end. Quality and reliability cost money, and I'm happy to pay for it. Viewed soberly, the 18 Pro is still not a leap, but a clean step. Sober I mean as a judgment and not as a condition: Burgundy is a case color here and not a glass of wine. The camera was my real question when switching from the 16 Pro. My guess was that the sensor hasn't grown, and the main lens is correct: Type 1/1.28, 1.22 μm pixels, exactly the same area as in the 16 Pro and the 17 Pro. No lens, no matter how good, gets out what the sensor doesn't collect. Apple has nevertheless turned two things at exactly this point: The aperture has become variable and opens to f/1.48 instead of fixed f/1.78 — a good half stop more light when you need it, and f/4 when you don't need it. And the telephoto goes from 12 to 48 MP, its sensor is over 50 percent larger than in the 16 Pro. So the area has certainly grown, just with the telephoto and not with the main lens. When it comes to storage, I've always taken the smallest level and let OneDrive do the work — I need that anyway, so I don't need a separate iPhone backup. After two years, however, the 128 GB in the 16 Pro were simply full. This time, the 256 GB is less a luxury than a necessity. I like the color, but it's not the first time Apple has been brave here: The 17 Pro had Cosmic Orange, and Burgundy is exactly its successor in the range. What is new is the direction, not the courage — a deep dark red instead of a beep. Of the old series, only silver has survived. The big hype is absent because most of the nice features already came with iOS 27 and thus also ran on the old device. But that's exactly the point from above: A manufacturer that provides two-year-old devices with the new features is the reason why I'll buy here again next time.
